Tomlinson, 74, husband of Saundra Prosser Tomlinson, died Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Bartow and Etta Mathis Tomlinson. The Rev. Tomlinson worked at DuPont for 17 years before going into the ministry in 1978. He had pastored churches in Walterboro, Chester, Newberry and most recently at Lynchburg Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of Sumter; two daughters, Sherri Tomlinson Sullivan (Mike Sullivan) of Columbia and Melissa Tomlinson Hooks (the Rev. Quinn Hooks) of Effingham; a granddaughter, Ashley Maria Hooks; special grandkids of the heart, Emily Alderman, Patrick Butler, Gabrielle Ridgeway, Gage Ridgeway and Victoria Hodge; two brothers, Albert Tomlinson (Betty) of Spartanburg and Onice Tomlinson of Darlington; and three sisters, Judy James of Sumter, Janet Turner (Richard) of Florence and Joyce Wadford of Sumter. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Izuma Irving and Juanita Smith. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Steven L. Hendricks officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Alderman, Andrew Tomlinson, Jerry Moran, Mike Garner, Calvin Geddings and Jimmy Hodge. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Lynchburg Baptist Church and the Hans Swygert Sunday School class of Bethel Baptist Church. The family received friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and will receive friends at other times at the home.
