| HIST | Date Published: October 20, 2009 JERRY P. SANDERS Jr. Jerry P. Sanders Jr., 64, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, in California. Born Sept. 2, 1945, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a son of the late Jerry P. Sanders Sr. and Anne Marie Sanders. Mr. Sanders was employed by Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for 51 years and earned the honor of Eagle Scout. As an adult, he led troop numbers 1, 94 and 1539. He was also a member of Elks Lodge No. 1539. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era. Surviving are a sister, Marie Bialkowski; three uncles, Sylvanus, Beauford and J.C. Sanders; two aunts, Mary Eton and Christine Spigner; and many family members and friends who all loved him dearly. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Sumter First Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Larry Christopher officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be cousins and close friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of his aunt, Christine Spigner, 2730 Browning Ridge Drive. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210 or to Sumter First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2609 McCrays Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29154.
