Jackson National Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mrs. Shirley died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. Born July 21, 1919, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late James and Pauline Andrews Beatson. She was a long time member of North Trenholm Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she loved spending time at her family's home at the beach and bird watching, especially hummingbirds. Surviving are her husband, Ralph E. Shirley of Columbia; son, E. Larry Shirley and his wife, Martha, of Blue Springs, Mo.; daughter, Sharon Scholl and her husband, Steve, of Columbia; daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Shirley of Columbia; sister, Helen Long; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Ralph B. Shirley; sister, Kathleen Graves; brothers, Clayton, LeGrande and James A. "Gus" Beatson.
