| HIST | Cecil Gregory Alford Cecil Gregory "Greg" Alford passed away at the age of 56 on April 19, 2012. He was employed as a registered nurse in the Oncology Department of Tuomey Regional Medical Center for 16 years. Battling cancer himself for the past 20 years, he was an inspiration, a friend and blessing to so many people going through the same battle. He left a lasting impression on so many of his patients and their families. He was a member of Wise Drive Baptist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, John Carnes Alford and Alma Powell Alford. Greg is survived by two daughters, Jana Alford McMichael (Jeff) and Heather Collins Hoyt (Les). Grandchildren include Dylan and Gage McMichael and Rachel Hoyt. He is also survived by a sister, Vera A. Mooneyham (James); brothers, John C. Alford Jr. (Lee) and Stanley Alford (Susan); a close cousin, Ann Dennis; several nieces and nephews; and special friends and co-workers Kathy Payne, Pam Teagle and Rebecca Kimbrell. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel, 515 Miller Road, Sumter. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and other times at the home of John and Lee Alford, 673 Red Bud Park, Sumter. Burial will follow the services at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Dearld B. Sterling of Wise Drive Baptist Church. Pallbearers will include his nephews, Michael Carrico, David Carrico, and Seth Reimer, and lifetime friends, Ricky Avins, Stanley Brown and Burt Hatfield. Honorary pallbearers will be the oncology staff at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. A special thank you to Dr. Billy Clowney and Dr. Scott Kellogg of Santee Oncology and to all of the oncology staff at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, his extended family. They were supportive and loving throughout Greg's illness.
