Ard Mary Frances Ard, 58, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of Mary Welch Williams and the late John E. "J" Williams. Mrs. Ard was a member of Wise Drive Baptist Church and was retired from Pinewood Manufacturing. Survivors include her mother of Sumter; two daughters, Michelle Elizabeth Ramos of Dillon and Linda Marie Thompson-Sims of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Johnnie Myers (Hugh) of Alcolu; two brothers, Earl D. Williams (Lori) of Sumter and Thomas Odom (Julie) of Coarsegold, Calif.; and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and a sister, Carolyn Schmitt. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Coulter Cemetery near Wedgefield with the Rev. Dearld Sterling and the Rev. Harold Kirkland officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her niece, 228 Curtiswood Drive, Sumter. Memorials may be made to the Jeanne C. Watson Oncology Unit, 129 North Washington St., Sumter, SC 29150 or to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
