James S. Wright Jr. was born May 3, 1949, in Sumter, to the late James S. and Lillie M. Wright. He departed this life on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, after an extended illness. At the tender age of 12, James joined New Bethel Baptist Church in Sumter. He attended the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1967. In 1967, he joined the U.S. Army and served a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. He owned and operated a successful business, Wright & Sons, Home Improvements. Preceding him in death are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Wright Sr., and his mother-in-law, Rosa Wright. James leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Deborah Wright of the home; three sons, Matthew Fullard (LaQuana), Shawn (Jovanna) Hamm of Charlotte, N.C., and Tyson (Ikea) Wright of Hampton, Va.; two daughters, Sieanna and Tamara Wright of Sumter; one sister, Delores (Julius) Green of Sumter; two brothers, Ronald (Martha) Wright and Larry (Martha) Wright, both of Sumter; a father-in-law, Leon Wright of Sumter; four sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn (Robert) Gason of Plano, Texas, Pricilla McLeod of Washington, D.C., Barbara (Louis) Ragin and Lydia McLeod of Sumter; one brother-in-law, Robert Earl Brown of Apopka, Fla.; six grandchildren, Ta'Shae, Shamaya, Jalen, Xavier, Axura and Tyson Jr., who entered the world on March 29, 2008, as his grandfather was leaving; a special aunt, Lucille Hastie of Sumter; a very special friend, Janie Washington of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joyce Chiles, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Sims. Interment will follow in Bradford Cemetery. The family viewing will be held at 1 p.m. today with public viewing from 2 to 7 p.m. The family is receiving friends at the home, 742 Olive St., and at the home of his sister, Delores (Julius) Green, 1060 Salterstown Road.
