| HIST | of Columbia, South Carolina Nancy MacDonald Moorer Cantey Nancy MacDonald Moorer Cantey COLUMBIA - Nancy MacDonald Moorer Cantey, wife of the late James Willis Cantey, died Monday, November 26, 2012. Born October 13, 1916 in Walterboro, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Joseph McQuillan Moorer of Walterboro and Allie Grey Buchanan Moorer, of Tazewell, Virginia. In 1938, she graduated from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, where she was a member of the golf team and was voted the "Fairest of the Fair." After a business course in Columbia, she worked in the office of the Chief Engineer for the S.C. Highway Department until her marriage on April 19, 1941. She accompanied Willis to several Army posts while the 30th Division was preparing for the 1944 Normandy invasion. She was a member of The Assembly for fifty-seven years and served as president. She was also a member of the Holly Garden Club, Palmetto Club, Forest Lake Country Club, Pine Tree Hunt Club, Junior League of Columbia and Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, where she served in the Daughters of the Holy Cross and for many years on the Alter Guild. Surviving are her three sons, James Willis Cantey Jr. and his wife, Lucille, Joseph Moorer Cantey, John Childs Cantey and Kelly O'Neil Wells, all of Columbia. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, James Willis Cantey III and his wife, Suzanne Buck Cantey, Childs Cantey Thrasher and her husband, Ryan, Brooks Cantey Ferguson and her husband, Shaun, Joseph Moorer Cantey Jr., Andrew Bradley Cantey, Whitney Elizabeth Cantey and her fiance, Brett Kenneth Sumner; and her great-grandchildren, Margaret Waring Cantey and James Willis Cantey IV. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Buchanan James and daughter-in-law, Kathy Barfield Cantey. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Episcopal Retirement Home at Still Hopes and caregivers, Elaine Geter and Jessica Cosentino, for their loving and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Still Hopes Residents' Assistance Fund, One Still Hopes Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or a charity of one's choice . A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012, in Elmwood Cemetery.
