Born Dec. 1, 1963, in Tacoma, Washington, he was a son of the late Robert Lee Howell and Beverly Wilson Howell Eargle. Roy was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman who loved camping, hunting and fishing. He was a Golden Glove boxing champion and a diehard Gamecock fan. He retired from Kaydon Corporation and was most recently employed at Wyboo Plantation Golf Course. Survivors include siblings, Paula Howell Durham (Dwayne) of Wedgefield and Robert T. Howell, Brian A. Eargle (Amanda) and James B. “Jimmy” Wilson, all of Sumter; cousins, Shannon Griffin (Dane), John “Mickey” Price (Lisa) and Tamera Boone Rewis (W.R.); one niece; six nephews; the love of his life, Sandy Mays Howell; and a very special friend, Wanda Wingate. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, in Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Kenny Griffin officiating. Pallbearers will be Brian Eargle, Jimmy Wilson, James Shipman, Wayne Brown, Robbie Newman and Keith Brown. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Paula and Dwayne Durham, 40 Durham Court, Wedgefield.
