- Questions to answer....Were Randolph and Harriet double first cousins? Was Randolph Singleton the father of Randolph Bracey? Were they really ever married (Randolph S. and Harriet)? It is only verbal history that says Randolph Singleton was the son of Richard Singleton and Harriet Ann Bracey. There was a Randolph Singleton in Brunswick Co, VA census of 1810. He would have been 48 years old when Randolph Bracey was born. Harriet would have been 23 years old. Oral family history says that Harriet and Randolph Singleton were secretly married for two weeks before Harriet's father found out. There is no proof that this story is true. The story told by a Mr. Brown goes like this:
"Harriet Bracey (b. 1800)first married Randolph Singleton. They secretly married and were not found out until they had been married about one week. Then, Harriet's family threatened to kill Randolph but instead he left SC and fled to Mass. where he remarried. It seems that William Bracey (Harriet's father) and Richard Singleton (Randolph's father) married each other's sisters. In other words, Richard Singleton married Ann Bracey, sister to William Bracey. William Bracey married Sarah or Eugenia
Singleton, sister to Richard Singleton. That made Harriet and Randolph double first cousins. After Randolph left SC, Harriet went to live with someone ( I can't understand the name given on the tape) and had her baby (1823), who was Randolph Bracey. Randolph Bracey later married a Judith Leary".

From Elizabeth Girardeau (betted@@pop.scescape.net):
"On Singleton, he (Von Hacke) has only one thing for a Randolph - that is that he was a witness on 20 Oct 1795. Doesn't say who he witnessed for. (A,253 Sumter)."
"I was looking up Singleton today & ran across this. Doubt if it will help but...
BRUNSWICK CO., VA MARRIAGES 1750 - 1853 by John Vogt & Kethley:

"Rebecca V. Singleton & Isaac H. Wallon married 14 June 1828; bondsman James C. Singleton; consent Randolph Singleton."
*** There is a Randolph Singleton in the Virginia 1810 Census.
