| HIST | Susan M. King Susan McQuillia King, known to us as "Bet," was born Feb. 23, 1943, to the late George and Eloise Frierson McQuillia, in Sumter County. On March 23, 2012, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Hartsville, "Bet" took flight as her name was called to take her to rest from her earthly labor. Susan, as a child, obtained her formal education in the public schools of Sumter County. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late John Henry King. To their union, two sons were born. Susan worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y., as a dietary aide for 19 years. She joined Pentecostal House of Prayer in Brooklyn and was baptized and became a full member. In 1999, she decided to return to Sumter to live. Mrs. McQuillia King's lifelong commitment to God continued in Sumter, as she became a member of New Fellowship Baptist Church, where she shared her knowledge and love of Christ and through her smiles and laughter, expressing how great our God is. She lived her last days at McCoy Memorial Nursing Center in Bishopville. She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, John Henry King Jr. and Andre King of New York City; three sisters, Viola McGee of Dalzell, and Eloise Maple and Annie Mae Davis of Sumter; sisters-in-law, Virginia Jones of Miami, Fla., Minnie Maple and Ruth Ramsey of Sumter, and Delores King Taylor of Bronx, N.Y.; brothers-in-law, Jimmie King and Ernest King of Sumter; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, great-grandnephews, great-great-grandnieces and great-great-grandnephews; her home care aide/faithful friend, Bernadine Moore of South Carolina and girlfriend/former co-worker, Joanne Holly of North Carolina; and a host of other friends. Mrs. McQuillia's body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Saturday for viewing until the hour of service. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Fellowship Baptist Church, Purdy Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Dale Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Aycock Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, Eloise Maple, 905 Jensen Road, Sumter. Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.
