| HIST | Martha I. Burk EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Martha I. Burk, 90, of Sumter, formerly of Evansville, went home to her Lord and Savior on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at McElveen Manor in Sumter. She was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Chicago, Ill., to the Rev. John and Margaret Cummins. She was a member of Sumter Baptist Temple and a former member of First Southern Baptist Church in Evansville. Martha loved music, serving as church organist at several churches for many years. Growing up, she sang in a quartet with her three sisters. Quilting was one of her hobbies and her family was the recipient of her handiwork. Many family vacations were spent camping. Upon retirement, she and her husband enjoyed spending their time at Myrtle Beach. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, of 54 years; granddaughter, Gina Schenck; sisters, Vivian Morris, Ruperta Frye and Mary Woods; and a brother, John Cummins. Martha is survived by a son, Stan (Elaine) Burk of Sumter; daughters, Becky (Steve) Schenck of Indianapolis and Gretchen (Ronn) Dunn of Evansville; grandchildren, the Rev. Aaron Burk, Jim Schenck, Scott Schenck, Andy Schenck, Julie Garvin, Jason Dunn and Alison Mayes; great-grandchildren, Olivia Schenck, Addison Schenck, Evelyn Schenck, Charlie Schenck, Sam Schenck, Noah Schenck, McKenna McDonald, Conley Burk, Zachary Burk, Luke Garvin and Amelia Mayes; and nieces and a nephew. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Southern Baptist Church, 80 W. Cullen Ave., Evansville, with the Revs. Aaron Burk and Joe Mayes officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Ziemer Funeral Home East, 800 S. Hebron, Evansville, and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions in memory of Martha may be made to The Anchorage Christian Youth Camp, P.O.
