SPIGNER Posted Tuesday, December 27, 2016 6:00 am Harry Lamar Spigner Sr., 89, husband of the late Grace Dellaney Derrenbacher Spigner, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at NHC Healthcare in Sumter. Born Sept. 23, 1927, in Lexington County, he was a son of the late Drue Addie Spigner and Lottie Derrick Spigner. He was a member of Northside Memorial Baptist Church, Sumter. Mr. Spigner was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Gulf Oil Corp. after 39 years of service. He was a member of the Brookland-Cayce High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Survivors include three sons, Harry Lamar Spigner Jr. (Joanne), Michael Perry Spigner (Colleen) and Drue Everette Spigner (Dee Dee), all of Sumter; a daughter, Julia Caroline Kirmse (Kevin) of Mesa, Arizona; four grandchildren, Caroline Ropp (John) of Hartsville, Melissa Dawkins (Kevin) of Paxville, Jeffrey Lamar Spigner (Tracy) and Sarah-Kathryn Marlowe (Andrew), all of Sumter; 10 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ropp, John Ropp IV, David Ropp, Mary Grace Ropp, Catherine Ropp, Darren Dawkins, Kayleigh Dawkins, Anna Louise Spigner, Dellaney Spigner and Jeffrey Lamar Spigner Jr.; and a sister, Beverly Bagnal (Bill) of Raleigh, North Carolina. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Northside Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Holley and the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today in Beulah Methodist Church Cemetery in Sandy Run. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Lamar Spigner, Dr. John Ropp III, Kevin Dawkins, Andrew Marlowe Jr., John Ropp IV, Darren Dawkins and David Ropp. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hank Spigner, 521 Godwin St. Memorials may be made to Northside Memorial Baptist Church Building Program, 1004 N. Main St., Sumter, SC 29153. The family would like to express its appreciation to the staff of NHC Healthcare and Caris Hospice for all of their loving care and compassion.
