- The ancestors thought Marshal B. Linam was dead because he just disappears from records in Sumter County after January 28, 1848. He was paid $16.00 from the estate of his father Charles Linam. Notes from John Tidal
In the Estate Papers of Charles Linam are the following references to money paid out exclusively for the benefit of Martial Lynam (their spelling) per John Tindal: September 14, 1842 (Receipt 32) paid Martial B. Lynam $3.00, November 30, 1842 (Receipt 37) paid Col. Wm. Nettles for hat $3.50, December 26, 1843 (Receipt 22) Paid Martial Lynam to pay for saddle $7.25, January 28, 1845 (Receipt 6) paid Martial Lynam in cash $16.00.
Marshal was a Private in (Russell's) 4th Alabama Calvary, in the Civil War.
A notation in the Marshall Duffy Lynam family Bible indicated that Marshal B. Lynam was buried in Dover Cemetery in Hubbard Texas, on August 8, 1904. Gwen and Richard Tilley located Dover Cemetery, which is a distance outside Hubbard, and examined all the remaining grave markers. Many of the gravestones were broken or missing, and no marker fro M. B. Lynam was found. The old cemetery has been abandoned and had no care for many years until only recently when a citizen of Hubbard began mowing and caring for it. Information recorded in the Groesbeck Courthouse, Limestone County Texas: Lynam, M. B., White Male 82 years, American. Date of Death: August 8, 1904, 4 p.m.. Place of Death: Condor, Texas. (Note: Condor no longer exists. School district records indicated that Callinas and Condor school district were merged, leaving only Callinas School District. Marshall B. Lynam and Margaret D. Ptomey married in 1849 in Wilcox County, Alabama. Margaret died in 1873, in Wilcox County and was buried in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Pine Apple Alabama. Marshall B. married Bettie Rikard on March 21, 1874. She died before 1878. After her death, he married a widow, Mary E. Dulaney on March 10, 1878. She was born December 1830, and died after june 1900 in Wilcox County, Alabama.
