| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina DALE CLIFFORD GARRISON Posted Friday, April 22, 2022 6:00 am Dale Clifford Garrison, 91, husband of 70 years of Frances Ann "Sinky" Robinson Garrison, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2022, in Sumter. Surviving, along with his wife of Sumter is a son, Glenn Garrison (Kellie) of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; a daughter, Linda Sublette (Shep) of Sumter; three grandchildren, Kristen Timmons (Ben) of Sumter, Dale Garrison (Peyton) of Wendell, North Carolina, and Will Garrison (Sara) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and five great-grandchildren, Ella, Evie, Thomas, Griffin and Banks. Dale graduated from Edmunds High School in 1950 and attended Newberry College. He was a standout football player (half back) throughout high school. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 37 years. He was a longtime member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Oswego, where he was a member of the John L. Edens Sunday School Class. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was an exemplary husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who never raised his voice or hand in anger and lived his life in gentle kindness and love of family. There was never an unkind word spoken within his home. Never. To others, he had a quiet, reserved personality, but to us he was hilarious. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Gertrude McClary of Kingstree, and was born May 28, 1930. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, 5575 Lodebar Road, Oswego, SC. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, Oswego, or to a charity of one's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.sumterfunerals.com. Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home & Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter, is in charge of the arrangements, (803) 775-9386. [1, 3] | |
