He was preceded in death by Janet Shipp- who is she? jkh He was an accomplished musician, singer and songwriter, and began his musical career as a young child singing in his childhood church of Orangeburg Baptist Tabernacle, Orangeburg, South Carolina, competing in talent contests and performing for community events. At age 11, he won a talent contest and appeared with Mickey Gilley on The Mickey Gilley Show. Since that time, he had been interviewed numerous times and appeared on television, radio and print. As a BMI songwriter, he published many songs. Among his most requested singles were “Blue Flame” and “Carolina Christmas.” Having several causes dear to his heart which led to the creating of a song, most endearing to Ricky were awareness for missing children and cancer research, which inspired him to compose and record “Ginni Lynn” and “Rose Petals.” The Ricky Love Band supported numerous commmunity events including performing in benefit jams for Hurricanes Hugo and Andrew. In the late ‘90s, recording artist Teddy Spencer recorded Ricky’s original song “Getting Over You,” which reached No. 67 on the Billboard charts. Having appreared with numerous recording artists throughout his career, including Willie Nelson, David Allan Coe, Confederate Railroad, Shelly Wright, Johnny Paycheck, The Bellamy Brothers, Lori White, Jerry Reed, Billy Joe Royal, John Anderson, Chairman of the Board and many more, Ricky was a “little” package of dynamite on stage. at death- he had on nephew and 4 nieces [1] |
