| HIST | of Ehrhardt, South Carolina I think that this is the Franklin Hiers whose obitary follows. jkh Franklin Hiers -- Ehrhardt Franklin Hiers, 80, of Ehrhardt, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family Monday, Oct. 12, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at St. John’s Baptist Church, Ehrhardt, with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at Cooner Funeral Home in Bamberg. Born in Ehrhardt, he was a son of the late Bradley C. and Agnes Peters Hiers. Mr. Hiers was a class of 1959 graduate of Clemson A&M College, Clemson University. He was an inspector for the Department of Fertilizer and Seed Certification for Clemson University for 42 years. He also worked at the Ehrhardt Stockyard in his earlier years and was a farmer, as well as owning and operating Hier Ground Quail Farm and Hiers Small Engine. He was a member of the National Guard and active member and mentor of St. John’s Baptist Church, where he served on various committees. Mr. Hiers enjoyed making lemonade for numerous family reunions and church functions. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a skilled craftsman who reveled in helping his son restore the Hiers family farmhouse. He enjoyed taking rides in his golf cart with his faithful sidekick “Sam.” He was a master at puzzles and enjoyed just being around his loved ones and friends. A giver to all that needed and a taker from none. He will be missed by all. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret McMillian Hiers of the home; a son, William Franklin Hiers of Ehrhardt; a sister, Beverly Hiers Fisk of Lodge; a brother, Alyea Hiers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Catherine Hiers, Althea Stevenson, Florine Fogle, Mary Louise Parnell, Margaret Rawl and Angelia Breland; and brothers Carroll, J.A., Percy and James Everette Hiers.
