Born Aug. 11, 1969, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Billy N. Shorter and Carolyn Wade Shorter. Ms. Steele attended Alice Drive Baptist Church - Pocalla Campus. She was employed by Schwartz, McLeod, DuRant & Jordan Law Firm. Survivors include two children, Jordan Rock and Alyssa Grace Steele, both of Sumter; three aunts, Joyce Shorter-Widick (Stephen) of Greenville, and Marilyn Baggett (Terry) and Jane Tinsley (Billy), both of Kentucky; and an uncle, Charles Shorter (Marsha) of Manning. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Nick Shorter. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery at Davis Station with the Rev. Wayne McElveen officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
