Henry Dillard, died on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at McLeod Health Clarendon. Born on Nov. 22, 1936, in Burgess, she was a daughter of the late Woodbury B. McDowell and Gertrude Tharpe McDowell. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a faithful member of the Church of God for 67 years. She was a member of Bethesda Church of God, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She loved to sing and had a passion to sing for her Lord. She retired from the Chesterfield County Library System. Survivors include three sons, Stephen Henry Dillard (Teresa) of Sumter, Joseph Berry Dillard (Beth) of Cambridge, New York, and John David Dillard of Sumter; two grandsons, Jackson Dillard of Cambridge and Brent Dillard of Sumter; a sister, Peggy Johnson of Myrtle Beach; and a brother, Thomas McDowell of Garden City Beach. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret D. Cummings; and a brother, Woodbury McDowell Jr. A funeral service will be held at noon today at Bethesda Church of God with the Rev. Al Sims officiating. Burial will be in Chesterfield Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to noon today at Bethesda Church of God. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethesda Church of God, 2730 Broad St., Sumter, SC 29150.
