| HIST | CHARLES WILLIAM SHAFFNER Posted Tuesday, April 9, 2019 6:00 am Charles William Shaffner, 86, widower of Margaret Helfer Shaffner, died on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Agap Hospice House in Columbia. Born on Dec. 23, 1932, in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late William D. and Bessie J. Shaffner. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was a Korean War veteran and a member of the VFW. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Survivors include two step-grandchildren, Brynn B. DuBose (Tyler) and Cory J. Blackley; a great-grandson, Wyatt Lee DuBose; and other extended family members. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements. [1] | |
