| HIST | NORMAN EVANDER TAYLOR Posted Saturday, August 19, 2023 6:00 am Norman Evander Taylor, 88, husband of Betty Jean Drakeford Taylor, died on Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born on Nov. 29, 1934, in Florence, he was a son of the late Norman Mayo Taylor and Christine Wilson Taylor Till. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years of service. He later retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a world-renowned aircraft photographer. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of Sumter; two children, Donna Taylor Shipman (John) and Norman Glenn Taylor, both of Sumter; grandchildren, Arthur Calvin Lee III and Aimee Lee Dorman; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Debbie McLeod Lepley (Bob) of Elloree, Kaitlyn Anita McLeod of Sumter, Beth McLeod of Columbia and Christie McLeod Beatson (Bobby) of Sumter; step-grandchildren, Mary Beth William (Daniel), Britton Beatson and Abbie Beatson; a step-great-grandchild, Addie; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Litaker of Sumter. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Luanne Bigelow Taylor; and a brother, Warley Taylor. A funeral service will be held at noon on Tuesday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Pastor Laura Whitt officiating. Burial with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. in the Florence National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 211 Alice Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
