| HIST | JAMES SINKLER Sr. Posted Thursday, December 4, 2008 7:00 pm MANNING -- James "Dokey" Sinkler Sr., formerly of Pinewood, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at the Medical University of South Carolina hospital, Charleston. He was the husband of Ethel Plowden Sinkler. Born May 22, 1941, in Pinewood, Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Eddie and Cora Anna Buckman Sinkler. His education was obtained in the public schools of Clarendon County and he was a member of St. John Baptist Church, Pinewood. While living in New York, he joined First Calvary Baptist Church, New York. After his retirement, he returned to South Carolina and renewed his membership with St. John Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Plowden Sinkler of Manning; a son, James Sinkler Jr. of Manning; a daughter, Kim Sinkler of Manning; grandson, Tykez Dowe; special little friend, D'Aundre Wilson; four brothers, Roosevelt (Rebecca) Sinkler and Norman (Myrtle) Sinkler, both of Pinewood, and Mark (Carrie) Sinkler and Levi Sinkler, both of Rochester, N.Y.; and four sisters, Bertha (Gilbert) King and Gladys Alston, both of Sumter, Rosanna (Henry) Herriott of Rochester and Minnie McKay of Brooklyn, N.Y. He was preceded in death by a son, Tyrone Sinkler; a brother, Eddie Sinkler Jr.; and a sister, Luvenia Branch. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John Baptist Church, Pinewood, with the pastor, the Rev. Joe Gamble, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. David Pugh, the Rev. John Johnson and Minister Ella Holland. Interment will follow in the St. Matthews Cemetery, Manning. The family will receive friends at the residence, 1474 Herod Drive, Manning.
