Kathy Lyons is the new principal at High Hills Elementary School, and Josh Campbell and Jessica Wright swapped posts, according to a district spokeswoman. The changes were effective July 1. Lyons was previously an assistant principal at Wilder Elementary for three years and has served in Sumter School District for 24 years and replaces Mary Kay Norton at High Hills on Shaw Air Force Base. Norton decided she wanted to return to the classroom and will be a first-grade teacher at R.E. Davis College Preparatory Academy, according to district Executive Director of Communication and Community Engagement Shelly Galloway. The previous principal at Oakland Primary School, Josh Campbell, is now the new leader at Millwood Elementary. In the switch, Jessica Wright now moves from the principal post at Millwood to Oakland. In other district news, the first day back to school for teachers is Thursday, July 25, and the first day for students is Thursday, Aug. 1. Also, Sumter School District's Board of Trustees' Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Committee will have its next meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the district office. Board Vice Chairwoman Bonnie Disney is the committee's chairperson. The full board traditionally only meets once in July and that occurred on Monday. The next regularly scheduled board meeting is Monday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m. at the district office. Biography My name is Kathy Lyons.
