Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Eddie Banks Richardson and the late Mary Jane Barfield Richardson. Mr. Richardson was a member of Sumter Baptist Temple. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired owner and operator of Richardson Marble and Granite Works and J&J Monument Company. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jack Dempsey Richardson Jr. (Shelley) and James Burchell Richardson (Tammy) both of Sumter; five grandchildren, Holly, Sarah, Lexi, Jamie and Rylee; and a sister, Rhoda Hair (George) of Sumter. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ned Richardson, Tom Richardson and Bob Richardson; and a sister, Fannie Pate Witherspoon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Eddie Richardson and Mr. Bobby Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
