Richardson Jr. said the family business dates back to 1964, when his father - who is N. Y. Yankees legend Bobby Richardson’s first cousin - purchased the company for a tidy sum. • “I remember Bobby Richardson (and his sisters and mother) sold the business to my Dad in January 1964 for $1,” he said. “He (Jack Richardson Sr.) was in it with his cousins (Sonny and Edward RIchardson). Those three ran the shop,” which was called Richardson Marble and Granite Works, and was located in the 300 block of Liberty Street. • Roughly the same time the Boyles sold the land on Liberty Street in 1983 or 1984, Richardson Sr. sold the business to Sonny for $1, he said, to keep it in the family as Richardson Sr. looked to retire. But he didn’t take to retirement too well, he said, even though he did some get some quality fishing done with his cousins and brothers. • Richardson Sr. found a spot at 1075 Myrtle Beach Highway, and opened shop in July 1987 under the name of J & J Monument Company Inc. of Sumter, South Carolina [1, 2] |
