Cothron CLERMONT, Fla. -- Mary Boyd Cothron, 87, formerly of Sumter, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011, in Clermont. Mary was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Sumter, a daughter of Tully W. and Edell (Barkley) Nicholes. She was a resident of Clermont for the past three years, previously living in Texas. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II and afterwards worked in several professions, most notably as a seamstress. She was a Christian. Mary is survived by her children, Paula (Martin) Wood of Hendersonville, Tenn., Donna Parker of Sumter and John (Chantel) Cothron of Clermont; siblings, Agnes Jackson and Ray Nicholes, both of Sumter; grandchildren, Martin Wood Jr., Amanda Kessler, William Parker, Amanda Cothron, Michael Cothron, Joshua Toohey, Jordan Toohey and Jeremy Cothron; and great-grandchildren, Ethan and Emily Kessler, Addison Wood and Emmalee Cobb. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Leah, Claude, Francis, James, William and Richard. A memorial service will be held Thursday in Clermont. The dates also were wrong for him to have been the correct person. I have two marriage licenses issued for my mother:(1) Mary Rogers to Lonnie Newman (1946) and (2) Mary Newman to James Herrington (1948) At some point in their marriage Lonnie Newman changed his name to James Herrington. I don't have a date of birth for him but my mother was born in 1923 and according to the marriage license she was a year older than he. Also, in my grandfather 's Bible, he had recorded my mother's FIRST marriage:  to Winston E. Rogers Sent from my iPhone I hope you will excuse my bombarding you with email. I wanted to clarify what I sent earlier.  My mother's FIRST husband was Winston Rogers. They had no children and divorced. My father, Lonnie Newman, alias James Herrington,  was my mothers SECOND husband. At some point during their marriage he changed his name from Lonnie Newman to James Herrington. I have two separate marriage licenses that show that she married him twice - I presume it was due to his changing his name. (1) Mary Rogers to Lonnie Newman (2) Mary Newman to James Herrington. I have a divorce decree for the second marriage.  Mom was born in August 1923 and he was a year younger than she.  Mom then married Benjamin Gordon, the bio dad of my sister, Donna. (1951 ???) In 1956, she married John Cothron who legally adopted me and my sister. My brother, John, was born in October 1966. Mom and dad remained married until dad's death.  I have had no contact with my biological father and feel certain that he is deceased.
