| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina Mary Caples Mary Gwendolyn Barkley Caples, age 77, beloved wife of J.D. Caples, died on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at her residence. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Pete Sr. and Mae Lackey Barkley. She retired from Atkon Industries. She will be remembered as a loving, wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Jimmy O. Barnes and his wife, Joann; two daughters, Kitty Caples and her husband, Billy Sr., and Sandra Culp and her husband, Edward; three stepchildren, Carol, Pam and Jeff; one brother, Carl Barkley; one sister, Carolyn Coursey and her husband, Clarence, all of Sumter; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, P.J. Barkley; and one sister, Linda Barkley McKelvey. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Timothy Lee officiating.
