| HIST | of Mayesville, South Carolina of Sumter, South Carolina ROLAND RILES Posted Wednesday, March 9, 2022 6:00 am Roland "Mark" Riles, 68, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, with his daughter by his side. Mark was born on Aug. 6, 1953, the firstborn child of the late Roland and Mary Lou Riles. He was a disabled Army veteran. Mark loved to play the guitar, organ and sing throughout his life. You would often see him on his motorcycles that he loved to ride. He loved to tell a good joke and make people laugh. Watching "Andy Griffith" was his favorite thing to do. In 2016, Mark became bedridden due to a stroke. His baby girl, Angela, took care of him, until God called him home. She was a big advocate, fighting for the best health care on many occasions. His fight was her fight. He never had one bed sore after being bedridden for more than five years. Angela took care of him 24/7 and gave him the best care possible. She called him her apple pie and he called her his peach pie. He had a special grandson, Corey Edmond, who helped take care of him over the years as well. On Jan. 31, 2022, Mark went into fluid overload and never recovered. His wife, Linda Riles, whom he married on May 31, 1972, passed away on Feb. 9, 2014. They are reunited again at the gates of heaven. He is survived by his four children, Lewis, Carla, Angela and Jason; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nine siblings; a special son-in-law, Joe Irby, who helped care for him in the home; and a special sister and brother-in-law, Mike and Melinda McKissick, who often come to see him and spend time with him. A special thanks to Medshore Ambulance Service, who took him back and forth to dialysis and medical appointments. They always treated him like family. He had a special worker, William Lane, whom he called "Son." Special neighbors, the Rev. Billy and Carolyn Sams, also helped get him to hospitals. A special thanks to his HBPC team with the VA who took good care of him also. A graveside funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Mt. Hope Cemetery, 100 Cherokee Road, Florence, with the Rev. Adam China. Flowers can be sent to Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home in Darlington. His daughter, Angela Riles, is accepting family and friends anytime at 37 Loring Drive, Sumter. [1, 6, 8] | |
