Mrs. Debbie Stanley of Sumter announces the engagement of her daughter, Katherine Wray Stanley of Sumter, to Micah Philip Sowders of Carthage, Ind., son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted M. Sowders of Carthage. The bride-elect is also the daughter of the late William S. "Tripp" Stanley, and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward N. Frenz and Mrs. Janet H. Stanley and the late William S. Stanley Jr., all of Sumter. She graduated from the University of South Carolina Upstate with a bachelor's degree. She is employed as a substitute teacher by Sumter School District 17. The bridegroom-elect is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Holmes of Dayton, Pa., and Mr. and Mrs. Ted M. Sowders of Indianapolis, Ind. He is a senior airman in the United States Air Force stationed at Shaw AFB. The wedding is planned for March 26, 2011, at First Baptist Church, Sumter. Katherine Wray Stanley and Micah Philip Sowders were united in marriage at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011, at First Baptist Church, Sumter. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Debbie Stanley and the late William S. "Tripp" Stanley III, and the granddaughter of Mrs. Janet H. Stanley and the late William S. Stanley Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Edward N. Frenz, all of Sumter. She graduated from Wilson Hall and the University of South Carolina Upstate with a bachelor of arts degree in early childhood education. She is employed as a substitute teacher by Sumter School District 17. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted M. Sowders of Carthage, Ind., and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Holmes of Dayton, Pa., and Mr. and Mrs. Ted M. Sowders of Indianapolis, Ind. He is a member of the United States Air Force stationed at McEntire Air National Guard Base. The Rev. Donald Gilbert Hansen and the Rev. William Jackson Watts officiated at the ceremony. Music was provided by Douglas Scott Warren, organist; the Rev. Jeremy Hansard, pianist; the Rev. Hansard and Mrs. Cindy Hansard, vocalists; and Timothy Alan Faulling II, violinist. Given in marriage by her mother and brother, William Shelton Stanley IV, the bride wore a white satin sleeveless gown featuring a scooped neckline accented with rows of pearls which extended to the back and down the train. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of white lilies, hydrangeas and peonies resting on her father's Bible. Jillian Merida Hinson served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Joanna Grace Bieger, Mary Ann Brown, Emily Marguerite Frenz, Jennifer Donovan Hinson, Amy Grace Peele and Nancy Diane Steele. Junior bridesmaids were Ansley Elizabeth Blanding and Kathryn Kennedy Blanding. Logan Elizabeth Mims served as flower girl. The bridegroom's brother, Joshua Robert Sowders, served as best man. Groomsmen were Edward Robert Frenz Jr., Jacob Allen Gray, Michael Steven Judy, Peter Dirk Schmid Jr., Caleb Edward Sowders, brother of the bridegroom, and William Shelton Stanley IV. Caleb Tillman Cuttino and Gabriel Thomas Cuttino served as ring bearers. Also participating were Mrs. Sarah Dinkins, Amelia Gordon and Mrs. Susan Trautsch. The bride's mother held the reception at The O'Donnell House, Sumter. The bridegroom's parents held the rehearsal party at Sandbar Theatre, Santee.
