She will be forever missed, loved and remembered, but we would not want to deny her the true joy of eternal life of which she is so deserving. The message of her legacy is one of unconditional love, kindness and gratitude poured out by the life she lived. Her faith in God and her devotion to her Lord was the priority of her life. Her daughter felt blessed for the guidance and support she was given by her mother throughout her life. Peggy touched many lives by her kind words, gentle smile, and yes, even her sense of humor. Living in Columbia for 30 years gave a strong basis of endeared friendships and memories. Her years of employment at Columbia Christian School Kindergarten gave added pleasures of life while working with and molding the lives of young children. Her passion to love always exceeded expectations at work and at home as a wife and a mother. As a member of Columbia Evangelical Church, she enjoyed the spiritual enrichment of ministry and service, as well as friends who provided love and support throughout life's journey. After moving to Dalzell in 1980, she and her husband joined Long Branch Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member of the church founded by her father, Henry Benenhaley. Born Oct. 10, 1920, she is now with her Creator after spending almost 90 years in her role as daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many and never hesitating to speak a kind word to a stranger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Hood; son, Wilson Hood; two brothers and five sisters. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Hood and Charles Dixon of Barnwell; grandchildren, Robin Hood, Kristie McWhorter, Matt Anderson and Whitney McLuen; great-grandchildren, Ryan Hood, Kayla Hood, Randa, Jackson and Shelby Grace Anderson; and sisters, Gertrude Benenhaley, Connie Buckner, Lois (John) Cook, Alice (Ben) Chase, John Mark (Bobbie) Benenhaley and Ann (Ray) Shoemaker. Special acknowledgement is given to the wonderful and compassionate staff of the Barnwell County Nursing Home, who always gave her a tender smile, a warm heart and caring hands during the past 21/2 years of her life. The circle of Mother's life on earth has ended and we will celebrate her homegoing with visitation at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church, Barnwell. Interment will be in Barnwell Memory Gardens. Thanks be to God for the life of this beautiful woman whose memories will be cherished forever and who will always remain in our hearts. The family has entrusted Dyches Funeral Home of Barnwell with the arrangements. [1, 3, 6] | |
