OXENDINE DALZELL - Jacob "Cutter" Waters Oxendine, 89, widower of Laura Benenhaley Oxendine, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Jake and Rebecca Benenhaley Oxendine. Mr. Oxendine was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church and served as the former clerk of the church for 48 years. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a retired Civil Service employee of Shaw Air Force Base with 32 years of service and later served as bailiff with the Sumter County Courthouse for 21 years. He was a founding board member of the High Hills Water System and was a member of American Legion Post 15. Surviving are one brother, Wade Oxendine and wife, Joan; one sister, Patsy Farmer and husband, Gary, all of Dalzell; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Wallace Benenhaley and Dargan Hodge. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Long Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. James Allen, the Rev. Sim Smith and the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Long Branch Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Josh Oxendine, Kenny Winemiller, Justin Stapler, Scott Stapler, Roy Jennings and Monty Oxendine. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Adult Men's Class of Long Branch Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 3295 Gaillard Road, Dalzell.
