  HIST	of Dalzell, South Carolina of Sumter, South Carolina Vernon Buckner Vernon "Chic" Buckner, 82, husband of Evelyn Ray Buckner, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at his home. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Charlie and Sally Ray Buckner. Mr. Buckner was a member of Springbank Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and retired from Shaw Air Force Base Civil Service after 42 years of service. Survivors besides his wife include two daughters, Cheryl Smyrl (Mike) of Columbia and Audrey Adams (Robbie) of Dalzell; and five granddaughters, Amanda Webb, Allison Smyrl, Jennifer Newton, Janet Laine and Julie Adams. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia "Peach" Webb; a brother, Ray Buckner; and six sisters, Edna Pinkham, Irma Ray, Janie Ray, Lillie Mae Ray, Julie Benenhaley and Hope Hood. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Springbank Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Miller, the Rev. Robert Norris and Robert Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey French, Wayne Catoe, Bill Atchley, Lonnie Moran, Johnny Powell and Tim Doolittle. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family would like to thank two special nieces, Sylvia Atchley and Florence Smith; and his special caregivers, nurse Bridgett Lemmon, Dalacy Kreider and Dan Wheeler.
