Posted Thursday, October 5, 2023 6:00 am DALZELL - Wallace Benenhaley Jr., 94, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023, at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia. Born May 26, 1929, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Wallace Benenhaley Sr. and Flossie Ray Benenhaley. Wallace has been a very faithful steward of his Savior, serving in many capacities. He has served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teacher, on various church committees and as a mentor to many. Wallace was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include two children, Sandra Smith and Ronnie Benenhaley (Joann); grandchildren, Jay Pittman (Winter), Chrissy Keels and Daniel Benenhaley (Cathy); great-grandchildren, Wesley Pittman, Windsor Murphy (Jacob), Addison Young, Ethan Benenhaley, Abbi Benenhaley, Trenton Keels and Kevin Keels; a sister, Margie McMickell; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mertis Benenhaley, who was the heart of his life; and siblings, Margaret Hood, Nellie Benenhaley, Florence Taylor and Hamp Benenhaley. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Springbank Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Hood, Mike Chambers, Michael Benenhaley, Mike Conte, Jamie Hood and Daniel Benenhaley. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Springbank Baptist Church and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Springbank Baptist Church Youth Fund, P.O.
