  HIST	of Burlington, North Carolina MILDRED MUNN MCELVEEN Posted Wednesday, June 30, 2021 6:00 am GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mildred Munn McElveen, 86, widow of Loyd Russell McElveen, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021, surrounded by her family at her daughter's home in Greensboro. Born on Oct. 24, 1934, in Bethune, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Daniel Munn and Cassie Roberts Munn. Mildred was a loving and supportive wife to Russell during their 65 years of marriage and a compassionate caregiver during his final years. She was an active member of Grove Park Baptist Church in Burlington, North Carolina, for 55 years and served as a Sunday school and nursery teacher. She was a longtime volunteer at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Those left to cherish her memories include four children, Janice McElveen Holmes (Ken) of Harrisburg, North Carolina, Loyd McElveen Jr. (Denise) of Sanford, North Carolina, Sharon McElveen of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Amy McElveen of Greensboro, North Carolina; loving grandsons, granddaughters and great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Oveita Huggins (Raymond) and Geraldine Bradham, all of Sumter. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathy Lurene McElveen. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Steve Williams officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L., Anderson, SC 29621 or to AuthoraCare Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
