| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina KATIE JOYCE ALSBROOKS MCDUFFIE Posted Saturday, March 25, 2023 6:00 am Katie Joyce Alsbrooks McDuffie, 88, widow of Robert Belton McDuffie Sr., died Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton. Born June 22, 1934, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late David Andrew Alsbrooks and Bessie Geddings Alsbrooks. She was a charter member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene and a member of New Start Community Church of the Nazarene. Mrs. McDuffie loved music and served faithfully as church pianist for more than 50 years. She also served as the church secretary/treasurer for more than 50 years. She retired from DuBose and Associates (formerly Osteen Davis Company) and Allsbrook Electric. Survivors include: two children, Robert B. "Bobby" McDuffie Jr. (Kim) and Beverly M. Florence (David), both of Sumter; three grandchildren, Shay Skey (Josh), Robert B. McDuffie III (Jessica) and Andrew McDuffie (Kayla); two step-grandchildren, Joey Kinlaw and Portia MacDonald (Andrew); six great-grandchildren, Piper Skey, Jackson Skey, Madison McDuffie, Colt McDuffie, Melanie McDuffie and Esmeralda MacDonald; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Sammie Alsbrooks, D.A. Alsbrooks Jr., Ernest Alsbrooks, Jasper Alsbrooks and Alfred Alsbrooks; and three sisters, Myrtle Hussey, Juanita Elders and Letha Baker. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 26, in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel officiated by the Rev. Donna Green, the Rev. Tony Lupton, the Rev. Arthur Sharpe and the Rev. Greg Pressley. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert B. "Bobby" McDuffie Jr., David Florence, Robert B. McDuffie III, Andrew McDuffie, Josh Skey and Luke McDuffie. The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her grandson, 3965 Gibbs Dairy Road. Memorials may be sent to a charity of one's choice. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and residents of Lake Marion Nursing Center, Caris Hospice and Karen McDuffie for their exceptional and compassionate care they provided.
