S. 15 South. • Sumter County Coroner Verna Moore said Steve Mullins, 45, of 2231 Sanford Drive, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 9:10 a.m. crash near the intersection of Confederate Road about six miles south of Sumter, as a result of multiple trauma. • Injured in the crash was Michael White, 57, of 2320 Laura Drive, who was taken by ambulance to Tuomey Regional Medical Center for treatment of non life-threatening injuries, authorities said. • South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Josef M. Robinson said the crash occurred when Mullins, who was driving a 1988 Mazda pickup truck, slammed into the back of White’s 2007 Ford sport utility vehicle that was stopped at a red light. • Mullins was driving too fast for conditions and was unable to stop his vehicle authorities said. • Moore said Mullins was on his way to work in Alcolu at the time of the wreck. • • Neither man was wearing a seatbelt, Robinson said. • The collision snarled traffic on U. S. 15 South for more than an hour as authorities worked the scene. • Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home & Crematory of Sumter. Michael G. White Sr. Michael G. White Sr., 63, husband of Barbara E. White, died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Rev. W.T. and Edna Garland White. He was a member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene. He owned S&W Used Cars for more than 35 years. Survivors include his wife; two children, Michael Gregg White Jr. and Gloria Michelle Wilkes (Kevin), all of Sumter; a stepdaughter, Stacy Scott of Sumter; three grandchildren, Crystal Paige White, Christopher White and Aurora Grace Nordic; two step-grandchildren, Zhana Bre Scott and Jasmine Tye Scott; two great-grandchildren, Austin White and Lucas White; and a brother, Walter R. White (Kathy) of Dayton, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Sammy Geddings and the Rev. Kenny Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Nazarene cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 4235 Nazarene Church Road, Sumter, SC 29154. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
