CHARLES R. TROTTER
Charles Robert Trotter, 74, of Sumter, went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, July 26, 2009, at his home with his family and loved ones by his side. He was the widower of Patricia A. Mucha Trotter.
Charles was born April 26, 1935, in Anderson, to Roy and Pearl Trotter. He joined the Air Force when he was 23 years old. He proudly served his country for 26 years, earning numerous medals and awards. Charles retired from active duty in 1980 and returned to serving his country through civil service as a supervising mechanic at the Shaw Air Force Base Fire Department. Charles was a member of Northside Memorial Baptist Church since 2003. He shared his beautiful singing voice and praised God as a member of the choir. In October 2008, Charles met Margaret Yates at Northside. They shared a deep love for God and for each other. Charles loved life and was a blessing to all. He enjoyed serving the community and counted it a privilege to serve others through the many charities of the S.C. Elks Association Lodge No. 855, where he had been a member since 1981. He was currently acting as state president for the South Carolina Elks Association.
Surviving are four daughters, Pamela Marie Trotter King and her husband, Brent, and Monica Lynn Trotter Pate and her husband Doug, all of Sumter, Melony Ann Trotter Harmon and her husband, Kevin, of Mansfield, Texas, and Donna Rae Trotter Burgess and her husband, Thomas, of Greeleyville; two sons, Charles Wayne Trotter and his wife, Gloria, of Iva and Louis Michael Trotter and his wife, Jan, of Starr; two brothers, David Trotter and his wife, Jean, of Charlotte, N.C., and Billy Trotter and his wife, Betty, of Pendleton; 15 grandchildren, Cory Trotter, Kevin Trotter, Melissa Trotter, Courtney King, Allyson King, Tyler King, Doug Pate Jr., Aaron Pate, Holly Pate, Morgan Pate, Madison Harmon, Gage Harmon, Nathan Burgess, Matthew Burgess and Evan Burgess; and a great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Hellams.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from Northside Memorial Baptist Church. Honored to officiate is the Rev. Jimmy Holley. Interment, with full military honors, will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Active Pallbearers will be Carlisle White, Carroll Barnette, Bob Duby, Ronnie Grooms, Doug Jones, Mike Mixon, Jim Johnson and Kevin Floyd.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Elks Lodge No. 855.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bullock Funeral Home.
