WELCH Corinne Elizabeth Welch, 79, widow of William Doyle Welch, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Providence Hospital in Columbia. Born Dec. 28, 1928, in New Zion, she was a daughter of the late Henry John Wheeler and the late Margaret Elizabeth McKnight Wheeler Harrington. She was owner and operator of The Children’s Shop in Sumter and The Children’s Boutique in Florence, and retired from the children’s clothing business after more than 40 successful years. She was a member for 58 years of Grace Baptist Church, where she remained an active member of her Sunday school class and Bible study groups. Survivors include a son and his wife, William Stanley and Millie Welch of Sumter; two daughters and their husbands, Linda Kaye and Stephen Boykin of Bamberg, and Brenda Joyce and Gerald “Jerry” Carroll of Gray, Tenn.; three sisters, Margaret Ann Robinson of Turbeville, Bobbie Jean King and Nancy Marie (Henry) Lowery, both of Sumter; a brother, Clarence McKnight (Barbara Jean) Wheeler Sr. of Manning; and seven grandchildren, Carla Brown (Durward) Thomason, Annie Brown Geddings, Anna Elizabeth (Bryan) Klosterman, Ann Miller Welch, Kathleen Jones Welch, Ashley Corinne Carroll and William Andrew Carroll. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Henry John Wheeler Jr. Funeral services were held Monday, May 26, 2008, at Grace Baptist Church with the rev. Dr. James Chandler officiating. Burial followed in Sumter Cemetery. Doug Brunson, Kenneth Presnell, and nephews Clarendon McKnight Wheeler Jr., Wayne King, Randall Coker and David Robinson serves as pallbearers.
