Born on Oct. 7, 1935, in Turbeville, she was a daughter of the late Henry John Wheeler and Margaret McKnight Wheeler Harrington. She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and retired from Tuomey Hospital. Survivors include a son, Cyril Wayne King of Sumter; daughters, Wanda King Puryear of Cayce and Connie King Hobbs (Gene E. "Eddie" Hobbs Jr.). She was blessed with six grandchildren, Brannon Puryear Edmonds (Matt), Carmen Puryear Hardee, Gene E. "Trey" Hobbs III (Katie), Kathryn Puryear Cook (Brodie), Harrison W. Hobbs (Katie) and Anna O. Hobbs; eight great-grandchildren, Madison, Mason, Colin, Annie, Lana, Pierson, Whitley and Noah; and a sister, Nancy Wheeler Lowrey of Sumter. She was preceded in death by sisters, Corrine Welch and Margaret Ann Robinson; and brothers, Henry John "Bubba" Wheeler Jr. and Clarence McKnight Wheeler. The family is appreciative of the loving care and service of Amedisys Hospice and sitters, Jean Moss, Kit Turner and Carolyn Solomon. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Todd Fleming officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 27 Broad St., Sumter, SC 29150 or to Alice Drive Baptist Church Open Door Offering, 1305 Loring Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29150.
