- He was executor of his father’s estate in Sussex County, Virginia in 1794 Richard bought land consisting of 654 acres in Darlington County, South Carolina on 11 Mar 1799. Before Richard moved to South Carolina, he began to spell his name Rollings instead of Rawlings. Later the “G” was dropped. In his Will of 18 Mar 1837, in Darlington, South Carolina, he mentions surviving children by his wife Ann. His will is recorded in Will Book 8, page 555, Darlington County Court House, Darlington, South Carolina of Cheraw District, South Carolina His will was presented for probate on 26 Jul 1838. The will of Richard Rollins, Sr. was proven on July 16, 1838. It was appraised on August 1 of that year by John Sansbury (“one of the justices of the Quorum assigned to keep the peace in said District”), Jesse Keith, Martin Morris, and William Sansbury.
