Kirby DARLINGTON - Richard "Ricky" Logan Kirby, 50, died suddenly on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, in Myrtle Beach after a full day of fishing with family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with burial following in Grove Hill Cemetery. Born July 28, 1961, in Richlands, Va., he is the son of Olea S. and Almeda Salyers Kirby of Sumter. Ricky retired from the South Carolina National Guard after 20 years of service and had also worked as a service manager for Goodyear in Florence. He was a very gifted mechanic who enjoyed helping others. He loved to spend time with his family and was a wonderful cook. Ricky was an active member of the Darlington Moose Lodge, where he was a past governor. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Darlene Streett Kirby of Darlington; five sons, Richard, Timothy, both of Sumter, Chris (Becky), Jason (Alishia), Ryan (Stephaine), all of Darlington; sisters, Patricia (Vic) Neilsen, Gail (Greg) Scarborough; two brothers, Guy (Lora) Kirby, David (Tina) Kirby; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Lea Kirby. The family will receive friends 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home and other times at 109 Spring Heights Circle, Darlington.
