| HIST | of Orangeburg, South Carolina Dukes Harley Funeral Home and Crematory's Post Dukes Harley Funeral Home and Crematory November 23, 2024 · James "Jimmy" Norris Plunkett, Jr., 80, of Orangeburg, SC, passed away on November 21, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Susan E. Plunkett. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ryan Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm, same day as the service, at the funeral home. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Eric Barese, Al Hubbard, Phil Hubbard, Will Plunkett, Zachary Hubbard, and Allen Kimmerlin. Honorary pallbearers are the Harris Marshall Sunday School Class and Agricultural Friends. Jimmy was born in Sumter, SC, a son of the late James Norris Plunkett, Sr. and Willie Eugenia Mims Plunkett. He was a graduate of Orangeburg High School in 1963 and was a former salesman for Mixon Seed in Orangeburg and currently with Seedway, LLC. Jimmy believed in serving his community and his fellow man over the years and he was involved in numerous civic and professional organizations and participated in volunteer activities and leadership roles. He was the recipient of numerous awards and was well-known and respected in the agricultural community for his knowledge and expertise, something that began early on when he was a member of the Future Farmers of America during high school. Among his many roles, he was Past-President of the South Carolina Seedman’s Association, South Carolina Watermelon Association, Orangeburg Optimist Club and was once a Worshipful Master of the Masonic Progress Lodge and served as an Advisory Board Member of the Coastal Clemson University Research Station. He was a loyal and faithful Gamecock fan having been a member of the South Carolina Gamecock Club for 50 years. From 1963 -1969, Jimmy was a member of the South Carolina National Guard as a Supply Sergeant. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Orangeburg where he served as a Deacon and a former member of Northside Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons and was the recipient of his most cherished recognition being named Father of the Year. In addition to his wife, Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Christy Plunkett-Barese (Eric) of Burke, VA; his brother, Danny Plunkett (Lucy) of Columbia, SC; two grandchildren, Lukas Barese and Grace Fitch; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Ashley Plunkett Fitch.
