MORRIS Sr. David Michael "Mike" Morris Sr., 64, husband of Carol Yates Morris, died Friday, April 17, 2009, at his home. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late David L. Morris and the late Mildred Pigate Morris. Mr. Morris was a member of Northside Memorial Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of Mike's Truck and Diesel until his retirement. Mr. Morris was a loving and giving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors besides his wife of 47 years include four children, David Michael Morris, Jr. (Tammie), Robert Wayne Morris (Tami), Lisa Morris Cannon (David), and Thaddeus Eugene "Thad" Morris (Tammy), all of Sumter; 11 grandchildren, Michael Morris III, Tiffany Morris, Alicia Lemke, Mason Morris, Brittany Cannon, Victoria Cannon, Anna Cannon, Lauren Morris, Meghan Morris, Katie Morris, and Gracie Morris; one brother, Steve Morris (Laura) of Sumter; two sisters, Gale Stone (Woody) and Elaine Fox (Richard), both of Sumter; a special sister-in-law, Margaret Yates of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Northside Memorial Baptist Church with the Revs. Jimmy Holley and Jim Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Conrad Brooks, Don Burchett, Melvin Holloman, Mark Yates, Tom Devine and Myles Yates. Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Kuhns, W.D. Lucas, Chuck Radcliff, Darryl Milam, Robert Odom, Bryan Player, Tommy Newman, Tom Davis and Sammy Harrell. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to Northside Memorial Baptist Church, 1004 N. Main St., Sumter, SC 29150.
