  HIST	at death- she had 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren Diana (Strickland) Herlong   |   Visit Guest Book JOHNSTON - A Graveside Service for Mrs. Diana Strickland Herlong, age 85, will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2012 in Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery at 10 o'clock. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary following the service. Mrs. Herlong passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2012. Born in Rome, Georgia, She was a daughter of the late Sim Boyd and Ruby Ayer Strickland who relocated to their home in Columbia, SC. Mrs. Herlong was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church. She faithfully supported her husband, Ben, (who predeceased her in 1980) in the family business, Herlong Implement and Motor Company including serving as the dealership bookkeeper. Chief among her many interests was serving the Lord in various capacities. An avid prayer warrior, she devoted many years of her later life as a teacher of God's Holy Word. She volunteered to conduct a weekly Bible study for the inmates at the Central Correctional Institute (CCI) in Columbia and also at the Rikard Nursing Home in Lexington where her brother, Donelle, was a resident. She and her husband, Ben, were members of the Cotillion Club, and she was an active member of several bridge clubs. She is survived by her three children: Susan (Ricky) Bledsoe of Whitmire: Joe Ben (Martha) Herlong of Johnston: and Harriet Parker of Florence; her sister: Dolores Blackburn of North Charleston. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren six great grandchildren. In addition to her beloved husband, she was predeceased by her brother. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the outstanding physicians and staff of Edgefield County Hospital who provided exceptional, dignified, and compassionate medical care to Mrs. Herlong. Memorials may be made to Edgefield County Hospital, 300 Ridge Medical Plaza, Edgefield, Sc 29824. Bland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
