Born on July 5, 1929, in Greeley, Colorado, he was a son of the late Grover Wallace Hancock and Maude Agnes Sanders Hancock. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion. He was the owner of a small appliance repair business. Following careers in California, the Hancocks retired to Greeley. They moved to Sumter in 2014 to be with their family and are residents of Morningside of Sumter. Survivors include two sons, Daniel D. Hancock (Melanie) of Sumter and John D. Hancock of Granada Hills, California; grandchildren, Caroline Hancock, Sarah Skinner (Wade), Katherine Hancock, William Hancock and Chelsea Hancock-Evans; and great-grandchildren, Martha Kate Skinner and Elizabeth Tatum Skinner. He was preceded in death by siblings, Arthur W. Hancock and Iris M. Poulos. A reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the home of Dan and Melanie Hancock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sumter SPCA, 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
