| HIST | MARJORIE LUCILLE JOHNSON HANCOCK Posted Friday, April 8, 2022 6:00 am Marjorie Lucille Johnson Hancock, 93, widow of Marvin Gilbert Hancock, died on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Sumter Grove Senior Living. The family is very grateful for the love, care and compassion the Sumter Grove family provided to "Mom" and "Dad" every day. Born on March 26, 1929, in Greeley, Colorado, she was a daughter of the late David Lloyd Johnson and Dorothy Billings Johnson. Following the death of her first husband, Ray Jageler, she met Marvin and they were married on July 25, 1953. They lived in Denver, where she began a career working as a grocery cashier and grew their family with sons, Daniel and John "Jack." In 1965, they moved to Sepulveda in southern California, where she continued working in the grocery store, until retirement. They returned to Colorado to enjoy retirement first in the mountains at Evergreen and then with family and friends in Greeley. Following some health issues, they moved to Sumter in 2015 to be near Dan's family. She loved time with her family and meeting with her Class of 1947 friends for dinner in Greeley. She was devoted to a succession of Boston Terriers that touched a special place in her heart. The greatest blessing was when she trusted in Jesus her Savior and discovered daily hope and encouragement in the scriptures. Survivors include brother, Gary Johnson (Beth); two sons, Daniel D. Hancock (Melanie) of Sumter and John D. Hancock (Karen Ray) of Granada Hills, California; grandchildren, Caroline Hancock, Sarah Skinner (Wade), Katherine Hancock, William Hancock, Chelsea Hancock, Mikki Hawken (Jake) and Cassidy Jageler; and great-grandchildren, Martha Katherine Skinner, Elizabeth Tatum Skinner and Madison Hawken. She was preceded in death by a sibling, Ronald Johnson; and a son, Alan Jageler (Starr). A reception will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the home of Dan and Melanie Hancock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sumter SPCA, 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 or to Emmanuel Ministries Romania, P.O. Box 3189, Sumter, SC 29151-3189. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements. [2] | |
