| HIST | James was sergeant of his company commanded by Captain John Irwin, son of Gov. Irwin of Georgia during the Creek Indian hostilities in 1813. He returned from Georgia in 1814 to Camden where he lived until his death. In 1821 he was Sheriff of the District. In 1833 he was elected Brigadier General and in 1843 Adjutant and Inspector General of the State. He served two terms in the Legislature in 1846 and 1848. He was recognized as an exemplary soldier and citizen. [2] | |
