Victor Michael "Vic" Touchberry, 66, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Frank R. and Edna Watt Touchberry. He was a graduate of Edmunds High School and attended Mitchell College. There he was a member of the Student Council and a member of several other organizations. In earlier years, he was very active in football and boxing. Under the influence and mentoring of Burke Watson Sr., Victor developed into an avid boxer for the Sumter Optimist Club. He won many Golden Glove trophies. He also served our country in the National Guard. Survivors include a brother, Frank R. Touchberry (Betty) of Florida; a sister, Rae Weeks of Sumter; two nephews, Philip Touchberry of Florida and Cray Weeks (Nan) of Sumter; and two nieces, Wynn Dee DuRant (Edgar) of Sumter and Roaslind Clark of Florida. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today in the sanctuary of Harmony Church with Pastor Drew Choate officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harmony Church, 1021 Sterling St., Sumter, SC 29150. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
